Linea Pro

Please note that if you are using the Linea Pro for Credit Card processing, it is extremely important you set this up in a secure manner. PCI Compliance should be the bare minimum you adhere to, but preferably you should go above and beyond. Please read our Security Guide to help you with setting up a secure environment.

Introduction

The Linea Pro is a hardware peripheral developed by Infinite Peripherals originally developed to scan items with a barcode scanner and accept credit card payment with an MSR on an iPod touch or iPhone. TIM has been developed to make use of this peripheral in a number of ways:

  • Accept credit card payments through the integrated MSR
  • Accept employee cards for login through the integrated MSR
  • Share battery of Linea Pro and iPod
  • Use the barcode scanner to scan Aloha checks on the WWT screen to perform a Get Check (version 1.6)

Implementation

To implement the Linea pro in your TIM site you will need to know what Linea Pro device to order, as there a numerous models. First off, for use with an iPod 4th gen (old connector) you will need a Linea Pro 4 device. For a 5th gen iPod (lightning connector) you require the Linea Pro 5 device. Both of these devices always have the MSR incorporated. The barcode scanner is optional. If you would want to scan Aloha checks, for example for Curbside functionality, you require the 1D barcode scanner as option and need to set Aloha up to print barcodes on the checks.

Setting up the Linea Pro is extremely easy. All you need to do is make sure it's charged and click in the iPod touch. TIM will recognise the Linea Pro automatically and accept magcard swipes. To accept credit cards, the credit cards need to be set-up in Aloha for processing through EDC and EDC needs to be running.

TIM only supports straight forward credit card payments through swipe. It doesn't support any verification. TIM also doesn't allow manual input of credit card numbers due to security reasons.

Linea Pro Options

When a linea pro device is connected a new option appears in TIM under FUNCTIONS > PREFERENCES called Linea Pro. This brings you to a screen that gives the user the following options:

Battery shows the charge level of the Linea Pro.

Device Variables shows a pop-up message with technical information on the Linea pro, like device model, firmware version and more. This may be requested by our support team.

The Charge iPod switch enables the user to decide whether or not the iPod should be charged when in the Linea Pro.

The Mute Sound switch toggles the Linea Pro sounds on or off.

PC-Sync switch allows the user to toggle syncing to iTunes on or off when the iPod is in a Linea Pro and the Linea Pro is connected to a PC using an USB-Cable.

Last but not least, when connected to the internet through WiFi, the Check Firmware option checks the IPC website for new Linea Pro firmware and gives the user the option to download and install the new Linea Pro Firmware.
